Was the Phrase 'Please continue' enough to convince participants in an experiment to torture a stranger. The politeness of the phrase and the tone seems to have been enough to convince seemingly good people to do something questionable.
Would you electrocute an innocent stranger if you were told to do so by someone in a position of authority?
